Claude Code Projects: Parallel Cloud Agent Project Coordination
Published by Anthropic on the Claude blog on 17 September 2026, described as projects redesigned from folder to conversation: you describe what needs to get done and Claude scopes the request, delegates the work, coordinates parallel threads, reviews the outputs and assembles the finished result; each thread is a Claude Code cloud session working on its own branch and copy of the repo, every thread adds to and draws from a shared memory, you can steer progress at any time and it keeps working after you step away. Available in beta to select Claude Pro and Max subscribers who use cloud sessions
Tool Overview
Features, steps and FAQ below
Features
- ✓ A coordinator and threads: Anthropic says projects have threads that do the work and a coordinator that directs them, with Claude scoping the request, delegating the work, coordinating parallel threads, reviewing outputs and assembling the finished result while you steer progress
- ✓ Each thread is a full cloud session: Anthropic says each thread is a Claude Code cloud session working on its own branch and copy of the repo, and if threads work on the same code the overlap is resolved as a merge conflict just like any other PR, with threads further splitting work using subagents, loops and workflows
- ✓ Shared memory: Anthropic says every thread adds to and draws from a shared memory, reducing the need for complex prompt engineering, and Claude also remembers your working and communication style so you can ask it to adjust how often it checks in, starts new threads or updates you
- ✓ A library of files and artifacts: Anthropic says projects now include a library that collects the files you add and the artifacts produced by Claude, making it easier to find relevant materials and for new work to build on past efforts
- ✓ Steering and usage visibility: Anthropic says you can monitor and guide progress in the main project chat or dive into each individual thread, even from your phone, and because each thread is a full session projects can reach usage limits faster, with project-specific usage shown and model and effort levels selectable for the coordinator and worker threads
How to Use
- Join the waitlist as a Claude Pro or Max subscriber who uses cloud sessions if you don't have access yet
- Create a project and select a goal as well as the repo or context, and Claude starts by suggesting work it can pick up right away
- Configure the project's cloud environment, connectors, plugins, instructions and model, briefing Claude the way you'd brief a chief of staff
- Monitor and guide progress in the main project chat or dive into each thread; with repositories connected, threads open pull requests and run your tests, and with documents they read and draft
FAQ
What is Claude Code Projects?
Anthropic says it is a new experience for Claude projects (in beta) that redesigns projects from folder to conversation: you describe what needs to get done and Claude scopes the request, delegates the work, coordinates parallel threads, reviews the outputs and assembles the finished result.
When and to whom is it available?
Anthropic says it is available in beta starting 17 September 2026 to select Claude Pro and Max subscribers who use cloud sessions in Claude Code and don't have any existing projects, expanding to more Claude Code users on those plans over the coming week and across all of Claude and Team and Enterprise plans after that.
How do threads work?
Anthropic says each thread is a Claude Code cloud session working on its own branch and copy of the repo, and if any threads work on the same code, the overlap is resolved as a merge conflict just like any other PR.
How does memory work?
Anthropic says every thread now adds to and draws from a shared memory, reducing the need for complex prompt engineering, and Claude also remembers your working and communication style, letting you adjust how often it checks in or starts new threads.
What should users keep in mind?
Anthropic says that because projects can run several threads at once and each is a full Claude Code session, projects can reach usage limits faster; you can check project-specific usage and select the model and effort levels used by the coordinator and worker threads.
