Claude Duet: An AI Agent That Comes to You First
Anthropic opened a research preview on 21 October 2026: a proactive agent app that briefs you each morning, watches your connected apps through the day and messages you only when something needs attention — built around Claude Opus 5.5, never seeing your credentials and checking before it acts
Tool Interface
Interactive tool will be available soon
Features
- ✓ Proactive briefs: a short morning digest across your connected apps that puts what matters in front of you instead of waiting to be asked
- ✓ Background watch: it keeps running while you step away, tracks those apps and only messages you when a decision is genuinely needed
- ✓ Real work, not just chat: from scheduling meetings to building dashboards across dozens of tools, forecasts, prototypes and web apps
- ✓ Credentials stay invisible: it follows the design used for Claude Managed Agents, so Duet never directly sees passwords or sign-in tokens
- ✓ Actions pass a gate first: approvals run through the auto mode classifier, plus a dedicated classifier and safety system prompt that refuse to send card numbers or government IDs
How to Use
- Check eligibility first: the research preview is waitlisted and starts with US Pro and Max subscribers
- Connect the apps you want it watching, and decide up front what it may finish on its own versus what must come back to you
- Spend the first few days on low-risk tasks and grade the accuracy of its briefs — watch where it draws the line on what needs you
- Once it proves reliable, hand over forecasts, dashboards and prototypes, keeping approvals and audit habits in place
FAQ
What is Claude Duet?
Anthropic's proactive agent app, in research preview since 21 October 2026. It ships as standalone iOS and Android apps and on claude.ai, is designed around Claude Opus 5.5, sends a morning brief across your connected apps, watches them through the day and messages you only when something needs attention. It also takes on scheduling, dashboards, finance or sales forecasts and prototypes. Official page: https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet — waitlist: https://claude.com/product/claude-duet
How is it different from just chatting with Claude?
The direction flips. In chat you ask and it answers; Duet brings things to you, and keeps working after you walk away. In Anthropic's own words it comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf. That proactive model is the real difference from a plain chat interface.
Which model does it use, and how is usage billed?
Anthropic states Duet is designed around Claude Opus 5.5. During the research preview it is included in Pro and Max plans and uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude rather than a separate billing line. Current limits are governed by Anthropic's subscription terms: https://claude.com/pricing
What safety work went into it?
Anthropic lists five layers: its trustworthy agents framework; credential handling modelled on Claude Managed Agents so Duet never directly sees passwords or tokens; action approvals through the auto mode classifier; defences against hidden instructions and prompt injection drawn from its browser-use research; and pre-launch red teaming plus an external firm's penetration test, covered by the public bug bounty. How does it handle sensitive information?
It ships with a dedicated classifier and safety system prompt that check each message. The strictest tier of information — Anthropic's examples are credit card numbers and government identification — is refused outright; health or personal finance details pass only when you explicitly instruct it to send them. That is a design intent, not a zero-risk guarantee, so anything leaving your organisation still deserves a human look.
Can I use it today?
It is a research preview requiring waitlist access, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers. Anthropic has not published a general availability date. Watch the official page for status: https://claude.com/product/claude-duet
