FAQ
What is Google Pics?
Google Pics is Google's new-generation AI image tool, generally available from 1 September 2026 and positioned as a pro-level image generator and editor inside Workspace. It is built on the Nano Banana image model, can both generate from a prompt and refine existing images, and ships as a standalone product plus deep Workspace integration.
How is it different from a generic AI image tool?
The main difference is editing in place. Generic tools usually make you rewrite an entire prompt to change one detail, whereas Pics lets you select a region and leave a comment-style note so the AI only changes that part. It also lives inside Docs, Slides and Drive, so you never switch to another website.
How do I get started?
Eligible Workspace users and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can start at pics.new, or click an image in Slides and Docs to open the Pics editor. Google says higher generative AI limits will apply at least until 28 February 2027, after which access may be adjusted with advance notice.
Can it edit text already inside an image?
Yes. Pics can edit and translate text inside images, which is especially useful for teams producing multi-language posters, social assets and product imagery without manually swapping copy in a design app.
Who is it best for?
It suits teams already working in Google Workspace, such as marketing, ops and design people who need social graphics, print collateral, product concept visuals and multi-language assets fast, as well as small teams that want to collaborate on images without opening another tool.
