FAQ
What is Mixboard?
Mixboard is an experimental AI concepting board from Google Labs. It pairs an open canvas with generative AI to help you explore, expand and refine ideas, visualising everything from home decor and event themes to new product ideas with images and text. It launched on the official Google blog on 23 September 2025.
How does it differ from Pinterest or Figma?
Pinterest collects existing images; Mixboard generates and remixes them. Versus design canvas tools like Figma, FigJam or Firefly Boards, Mixboard is lighter and ideation-first — one sentence fills a board and plain language reshapes it, with almost no design skill required.
Can I use my own images?
Yes. You can add your own images to the canvas, or use an uploaded image as a reference for further generation so new visuals stay consistent in style and subject — handy for extending shot or existing brand visuals into a full direction.
What is it best used for?
Typical uses include interior and space decor exploration, event and party themes, early product-concept divergence and visual references for DIY projects. Anywhere you need to visualise ideas before committing to a direction, it beats iterating in heavy design software.
Is it free, and does it support other languages?
Mixboard is free as a Google Labs public beta, primarily available in the US with an English interface. Availability and features may change as the experiment evolves; check the Google Labs site for the current details.
Can the generated images be used commercially?
Internal ideation and pitching is generally fine, but before commercial use verify the licensing of the model and source material, especially if the visuals reference copyrighted images. The safe habit is to treat Mixboard as a direction-finding tool and route final commercial artwork through a proper design process.
