What is Time Duration Calculator?

The time duration calculator is a free online date-time tool that finds the interval between two dates (or datetimes). Pick start and end dates — down to hours, minutes and seconds, or whole days only — and it shows the breakdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds plus three summary units: total hours, total minutes and total weeks. If the end is earlier than the start, the absolute difference is shown. Handy for work hours, project scheduling, vacation days, exam countdowns, event countdowns, retention windows and birthday countdowns. A “Set to now” shortcut anchors the calculation to the current moment. Everything runs locally in your browser.

FAQ7 questions
What is the Time Duration Calculator?

An online date-time tool. Input: start and end dates, down to hours, minutes, and seconds. Output: the difference broken into days, hours, minutes, and seconds, plus totals in hours, minutes, and weeks. Use it for work hours, project scheduling, vacation days, and countdowns.

How do I include time in the calculation?

Turn on “Include time” and set the hours/minutes/seconds for each side; the tool then computes to the second. Turned off, it treats both dates as 00:00.

What if the end is earlier than the start?

The tool shows the absolute difference (no negative sign) with a notice, handy for historical spans.

Does it handle month and year boundaries?

Yes. It uses the real calendar, correctly handling 30/31-day months and leap years (e.g. 2024-02-29).

Does total hours include the days?

Yes. Total hours = days × 24 + remaining hours — the full span converted, ideal for work-hour math.

How are time zones handled?

The tool uses your browser’s local time zone for both input and output, so results are unaffected by zone differences.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything is computed locally in your browser.
